Based out of Burnaby, British Columbia, Mike Grunde has been painting and drawing for over 40 years. He first started training as a child with his Grandmother Valjia Grunde, in Montreal, who painted landscapes and still life in oils. Having Moved out west at the age of 10 to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.Mike Grunde schooled in Sherwood Park, taking fine art, and graphic design vocational paths in high school. He was a featured entry winner for a national high school design competition for the international Expo 86’ in Vancouver in 1986.
He Trained at the University of Calgary under Marcia Lee Perkins, Gerald Huslak, and Ron Kostyniuk, while visiting and learning from Richard Halliday, his God father, and Dean of the Alberta College of Art, at the time.
He also trained at the University of Alberta under Bob Sinclair, and Graham Peacock. A few years later, Mike Grunde then spent 14 months mentored under Dene Croft, President of the Canadian Federation of Artists, at his studio in North Vancouver, as well as occasionally spending some time with the Burnaby Arts Guild.
